It has been 8 years since I last visited Laos, the country in which I was born and lived for 7 years prior to moving to the US. In addition to seeing relatives and enjoying the progress being made here, the trip would include some humanitarian efforts and participation in some amazing historic events that are taking place around the banning of cluster munitions.

Car X with UXO Lao Savannakhet

In the past few days Elaine, Linda and Pon and I had quite a journey. Car X includes the Legacies of War team that independently ventured on our own in Savannakhet, Laos lead by UXO Lao.

Over the past few days, I traveled with other members of Legacies of War through Savannakhet Province in central Laos to the town of Sepone and the surrounding region.

During a trip to southern Laos I met many people whose lives continue to be shaped by the millions of cluster bombs that were dropped during the war. Their stories are similar to the stories of survivors that I heard in Laos more than 25 years ago.

Legacies of War visited Kenglin village in Savannakhet province during UXO clearance operations. We were able to meet and observe the Handicap International clearance team.
