FMP 2016: Lao Now
Event Date: Jan 1, 1970
Join us for our 2nd annual Fashion Meets Philanthropy Fundraiser for Legacies of War at Wallace Hall in New York City! All funds raised and donations will go towards Legacies of War, an organization that advocates for the removal of unexploded UXO bombs in Laos.
WHY
To benefit a future where the people of Laos can walk their lands free from encountering one of the 80 million unexploded bombs still active.
WHAT
Dressed with a retrospective of looks from the subcultures of Laos, Lao Now offers a curated evening of food, fashion, and art. Highlighted with internationally recognized speakers, the expansive venue at Wallace Hall on the Upper East Side of Manhattan will be anchored by a contemporary runway show from fashion entrepreneurs Monica Phromsavanh & Elizabeth Suda. Food service from acclaimed New York Chef Phet Schwader provides the flavors that complete the transcendence for guests out of daily life into what it means to Lao Now. As the centerpiece that fully emulates the modern state of Laotian culture, Channapha Khamvongsa ends this evening with stories from the frontline, recounting her 3 months in South East Asia and Laos during the first visit in history from an American President, Barack Obama.
How Do You #LaoNow?
“Lao Now” will take an active look into what it means for Laotians to engage with their local and international communities through personal pursuits in fashion, technology, food, art, and business. Using the cornerstones of hope and healing set forth through the advocacy from Legacies of War; vendors, speakers, and Laotian voices the world over can share their respective stories with #LaoNow.
Participants will share self recorded videos on social media that offer the world a glimpse inside what it means to “Lao Now”
