Harrisonburg, located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, is home to James Madison University.
Why this City?
James Madison University is home to the Center for International Stabilization and Recovery (CISR). Legacies was attracted to this stop by our newest Board Member, political scientist and CISR director Ken Rutherford, and his amazing life journey after a landmine accident. Ken reflected on his accident, “It was an experience that fundamentally altered my life for the good. It crystallized my vision of what I believe I was put on this Earth to do.”
We will also be joined by Legacies Board Member Titus Peachey, Director of Peace Education for Mennonite Central Committee U.S., and a participant in the Cluster Munitions Coalition, which successfully advocated for an international ban on the production, stockpiling, transfer and use of cluster munitions, and which went into effect in 2010.
